Phase 6 Of Wildwoods Boardwalk Renovations Announced

September 21st 2024

The City of Wildwood is pleased to announce the award for Phase VI of the Boardwalk Renovation Project, which encompasses the area from Spicer Avenue to Montgomery Avenue. The bid was awarded to Fred M. Schiavone in the amount of $4,173,387.01.

Over the past four years, the Wildwood Boardwalk has undergone significant renovations, primarily focusing on restoring the aging wooden sections and improving its structural integrity.

Beginning in 2020, the multi-phase project aimed to replace worn-out decking and concrete tram pads, addressing decades of wear and tear. By 2024, Phase V of the project had been completed, revitalizing large stretches of the iconic 2-mile-long promenade.

The renovations also include improved amenities like lighting, bike racks and railings.

Wildwood boardwalk overhaul could cost $1 million

Mayor Ernie Troiano stated, "The Boardwalk is the quintessential American vacation experience. It is an important cultural and entertainment hub, not only for Wildwood, but for the entire state."

"It has been a priority to ensure that our historic boardwalk remains safe and enjoyable for visitors for many years to come," added Deputy Mayor Steve Mikulski.

"We are deeply grateful to those who led this bipartisan legislation, such as Senator Paul Sarlo, Senator Michael Testa, Assemblyman Louis D. Greenwalk, Assemblyman William Moen, Senator Vin Gopal and Senator Vince Polistina," said Commissioner Krista McConnell.

The project is full funded by the $100 million New Jersey Boardwalk Preservation Fund, established by Governor Phil Murphy in August 2023.

Managed by the Department of Community Affairs, the fund supports projects such as boardwalk maintenance, new construction and accessibility improvements. In February 2024, 18 shore municipalities, including Wildwood, Asbury Park and Atlantic City, were selected to receive a share of the funding based on project needs and financial distress levels.

October 7 is the proposed date to start construction. Substantial completion should be done by May 9, 2025.
