Dining Room Drama: 5 Trending Looks for Small Rooms and Tight Budgets

Dining Room Drama: 5 Trending Looks for Small Rooms and Tight Budgets

October 16th 2021

Here’s a thought: Your dining room should be a space you actually use to eat—not just a surface to park a laptop and use as an impromptu office, or cover with the random detritus of your life. Think about all the cozy fall feels in your future if you clear your tabletop. Whether it’s for hosting a small dinner party or enjoying a romantic dinner with your partner, your dining room can be the place to be.

But we get it, a big design upgrade can be costly and disruptive. Luckily, all of the dining room improvements we found this week on Instagram can be done on the cheap.

Ready to cozy up your space? Here are five designs that will bring drama to your dining room.

1. Regal modern chair

2. Pumpkin centerpiece

The easiest and most affordable dining room upgrade on this list is also one of our favorites. We can’t get enough of the simply chic pumpkin centerpiece from @ahostinghome.

“This inspired centerpiece is a magical way to welcome fall into your home,” says Juvakka. “The pumpkins capture the essence of fall, and the warm-colored flowers and accent foliage are visually stimulating.”

3. Rosy walls

In case you still weren’t sure about going all-out pink in your dining room—here’s your sign. Rose is a trending wall color this season, and @chrislovesjulia shows us just how perfect of a pairing it can be with your table.

“Painting your walls in rose will instantly bring more warmth to the room,” says designer Andra DelMonico, of Trendey.

Why? The warm undertones of rose look beautiful with neutrals, so it’s an easy addition to an already contemporary room.

“Just be careful to choose a rose that isn’t too mauve, which is a little more muted and won’t have the same effects,” adds DelMonico.

4. Cozy country-style pendant

Another great way to bring some modern fall vibes into your space without spending much is one of these country-style pendants showcased by @caitlinflemming.

“One of the best ways to create a country aesthetic in your home is by changing out the light fixtures,” says DelMonico. “Look for a fixture that has an aging look or feels handmade. It could just be a fixture that looks like it’d be found elsewhere—like in a carriage house or refinished barn apartment.”

5. Cubby-style storage

We can never have enough storage, but when it also functions as decor (like we see from @mpintodesign), that’s what we call a design home run.

“A cubby-style bookcase is perfect for those with limited space,” says DelMonico. “Because you can use the cubbies for everything from storage to decor.”

If you have an empty wall, consider a floor-to-ceiling unit that looks like it’s built-in.

“For a room where space is limited, then consider adding a credenza type of unit that sits on legs,” adds DelMonico.
