The Cape May County Zoo on Wednesday announced the birth of two Grant’s Zebra foals born weeks apart.
First-time mom “Lydia” gave birth to a healthy female foal April 16 at the zoo in Cape May Courthouse, according to a news release from the facility. Caretakers separated Lydia and her baby from the herd and kept them in a quiet area because it was her first foal.
“Lydia has been an excellent mother and her foal is strong and growing quickly,” Dr. Alex Ernst, associate veterinarian at the zoo, said.
Another zebra foal was born May 7 to mom “Gretta,” according to the zoo. Both mother and baby were reported to be doing well, Ernst said.
