Cape May County Zoo Aviary To Close Permanently

Cape May County Zoo Aviary To Close Permanently

April 1st 2023

One of the Cape May County Zoo's oldest and most beloved attractions is closing its doors permanently this spring.

The World of Birds Aviary is closing, though no official date has been announced. The zoo said its trying to find a new home for the birds, though some will be staying.

"As one of the oldest attractions at the Zoo, 25 years of tropical conditions has taken its toll on the building, and necessary maintenance and repairs have become unsustainable," the zoo announced in a Facebook post Friday.

After the birds are relocated to other zoos across the country, the building will be decommissioned and eventually removed.

"While the closure of this beloved part of the Cape May County Zoo is sad news we look forward to the future where we can bring new and upgraded avian habitats to our visitors," the zoo said.

The removal of the aviary will cause inconvenience and disruption in the heart of the zoo, but the new habitats "will be well worth it," the zoo said.

"Join us as we bid farewell to an old friend but look forward to a bright future," the zoo said.
