The largest resort in Cape May County is set to open just in time for the summer season in 2024 following the merger of two hotels.

A year ago, Madison Resorts purchased the doo-wop style Oceanview Motel, saving it from demolition. Now, the company has purchased the iconic Royal Hawaiian directly next door, and plans to turn both into Madison Resort Wildwood Crest.

"When I received the call about the availability of the Royal Hawaiian, it became clear that we had an opportunity to weave its timeless architecture into the fabric of Madison Resort," said Madison Resorts President Dan Alicea in a news release. "In a world where such architectural marvels are scarce, embracing the legacy of the past is not just a choice; it's a commitment to preserving the extraordinary in a rapidly changing landscape."

The company purchased the Royal Hawaiian for $13.4 million and has $7 million planned in expansions and renovations. The massive resort will have 200+ rooms, three restaurants, two pools, five conference rooms, two rooftop event spaces, beachfront weddings and more within two towers.

Phase one of Madison Resort Wildwood Crest will open in early spring of 2024 with the unveiling of the preservation efforts and renovations of the former doo-wop hotel at Beach Avenue and Rambler Road. The Royal Hawaiian portion of the plans will open in early summer of 2024.

The initial section was originally set to open this past Memorial Day. However, while Madison Resorts had originally planned to renovate the lobby, they realized it had to be completely redone, and chose to push back the opening date. But they promised that the new lobby pays homage to the classic doo-wop look.
