Cape May Ferry Proposed 4 New Vessels in $320 Million Project

Cape May Ferry Proposed 4 New Vessels in $320 Million Project

April 8th 2023

The Cape May-Lewes Ferry is considering 4 new vessels, at $76 million each, The new ferries proposed will be smaller than any of the current ferries.

The estimated $320 million project will include upgrades to the terminals on The Cape May and Lewes sides. Kristen Kissinger is a marine transportation planner with KPFF consulting engineers in Seattle, one of the firms advising the Delaware River and Bay Authority on the project.

“This would be a phased approach, as many fleet replacements are. It takes time,” Kissinger said. The authority operates the ferry. Last year, the ferries carried more than 720,000 passengers and 263,610 vehicles across the bay, spokesperson James Salmon said.
