Make Your Dining Room Casual & Stylish For Under $250 With These 5 Looks

Posted: October 22nd 2022

If there’s one room in the house that most of us associate with formality, it’s the dining room. Even if you’re not boxed in by a formal dining room, an open-concept dining space can start to feel drab after a while.

So if you’re eager to turn your traditional dining room into a gathering place that feels casual, inviting, and stylish, we’re here to help with a bevy of interior design ideas courtesy of Instagram.

We’ve rounded up five looks for you to consider on your next home decor binge, all of which can be achieved using products that cost less than $250.

1. Colorful candlesticks

In this look from @villa_pocket, we love the fun, colorful decor contained inside an otherwise neutral space. One particular item, the Millennial Pink candlesticks, is going on our shopping list ASAP.

“Candlesticks are the perfect accessory for any dining room table,” says designer Megan Nelson, of Nest With the Nelsons. “These candlesticks, in particular, work well because they’re colorful, funky, and unexpected.”

2. Dining bench

In the spirit of being more comfortable (and creating a space that deviates from the stuffy norm of most dining rooms), we’re highlighting this dining bench seen in a photo from @piaolsbo.

“Cute meets function with this dining room bench. It’s displayed in a window but can easily offer seating for your dining room table,” says Nelson. “The look also adds a bit of coziness that every space is craving during these cold fall days.”

3. Floor lantern

If you’re looking for a DIY project on this list, you may have found it with this Japandi-style paper floor lamp from @studio.hanoi. We appreciate the lamp’s simplicity and sophisticated edge that will complement a variety of design styles.

4. Centerpiece sculpture

If you’re looking for a unique way to decorate your dining table (without candles or holiday garb), then you might just be inspired by this centerpiece look from @lebaneseindc.

“Nothing puts a dining table in the big leagues more than a wonderful sculpture as a centerpiece,” says designer Pablo Solomon of Austin, TX. “The trick is to pick a sculpture that fits the scale of the table—not too big or too small. It’s also good to choose a sculpture that has a good story behind it.”

5. Staged bookcase

There isn’t a room in the house that won’t benefit from a well-staged bookcase like this one from @myinsidy. That’s why we love the idea of adding one to your dining room.

“We love a staged bookcase, especially one that extends the look, feel, and style of the rest of the room,” says Nelson.

“Lay groups of books on the shelves in stacks to create a design element that oozes sophistication,” says Nelson. “Adding accessories to the shelves also makes it interesting, and houseplants will give the bookshelf a boho vibe.”
